VASSAR COLLEGE - JULIET COLLEGE STORE

Completion Date: 2014

Architect: Tinkelman Architecture

In February 2014, ACCI was invited by Bob Walton, Vice President of Finance and Administration at Vassar College to work with Tinkelman Architecture on a high profile project for the Vassar community. The project included breathing new life into a 1938 building that had survived a fire and many previous renovations. The building is located on the corner of Raymond and Collegeview Avenues in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Some of the project highlights included:

A terrazzo tile floor design of which was coordinated with a supplier, manufacture, water jet subcontractor and and installer.

A full LED lighting package of which was integrated with nine large solar tubes and monitored by a day light harvesting system.

Upon removals of an existing ceiling system at the front entry two large art deco light fixtures were revealed. The team decided to have them cleaned and re-lamped with neon. We then wall mounted these fixtures in the old theater.

The historic "JULIET" exterior sign was removed and restored back to its original condition and reinstalled. To complement the old sign the team agreed to produce a new "JULIET" sign on the interior of the building and to use it as a focal point in the old theater.

A nine panel LCD screen was used on the back wall just above a performance platform. The performance area is finished in 12 x 12 cork flooring.

A stainless steel perforated panel railing system was used at the mezzanine space and stair system.

20 weeks total for the majority of the design, procurement, and implementation of work. The team worked very hard and maintained the original schedule.
