JESSE J. KAPLAN THERAPY POOL

Client: Rockland BOCES

Location: West Nyack, NY

Project Value: $5 Million

Completion Date: December 2019

Architect: Michael Shilale Architects, LLP

The Jesse J. Kaplan School is an Elementary and Middle School facility serving students with autism, medical fragility, cognitive

and/or multiple disabilities on he Rockland BOCES campus, located in West Nyack, NY.

The project was designed, bid and awarded without a Construction Manager. The commencement of the project did not go as planned and Rockland BOCES recognized the need for a Construction Manager. As a result, Arris Contracting Company, Inc. (ACCI) was contacted, interviewed and awarded the job.

Once ACCI was retained for this project we immediately started working on an 8,000-sf addition, valued at $5 million, which included an ADA compliant interior pool, state-of-the-art Hydroworx therapy pool, bathrooms, lockerrooms, corridors, basement, offices and  mechanical space. The project had already gone through the preconstruction and bidding phase. All prime contractors were awarded but the groundbreaking did not start due to some issues. ACCI engaged the General Contracting prime and ground breaking commenced within a few weeks. ACCI enforced the contractor to work through the winter to help recoup time on the  schedule.

Overall, the project was a success as the state-of-the-art pool facility was a great benefit to the Rockland BOCES community. The addition was later named "The Dr. Mary Jean Marsico Aquatic Center" in honor of Dr. Mary Jean Marsico's retirement.
